During thrashing, my right thumb was crushed. My father made splints for it, and put them around the thumb joint. Then he put sugar and camphor on it and wrapped it. This was not changed as I remember unless it was to put on a clean outside wrapper. I was about ten years old. The joint was left deformed, but entirely useable.
